The Chihuahua is a big dog in a little body, they are alert and very friendly. These dogs are devoted to their owners and love to play.
As you would expect for such a small dog, they are a little stand offish with over loud and lively children and other dogs that are a lot bigger than themselves.

These dogs do like to exercise, but do not require a lot. This is a dog that requires a low amount of exercise. One good walk each day and lots of play at home is enough to keep them happy.

What to Watch Out For
These dogs do love to play, but can get injured rather easily when playing with over enthusiastic children. Just make sure your children understand how fragile this little dog is, and that they need to be gentle when playing with it.
Just a few things to take note of here; patellar luxation, Legg-Calve-Perthes, eye defects, heart conditions, hypoglycaemia and tracheal collapse.
The perfect owner of the Chihuahua would be gentle and affectionate and has lots of time for play with the dog. Keep the dog happy and active at home and you are onto a winning combination.
