English Toy Spaniel

The English Toy Spaniel is a reserved little dog that is bread to be a perfect companion. These dogs do not do well being left alone a lot.

They do not need a lot of exercise and are considered to be really good around children. They will be shy around strangers and do not make very good watchdogs.

Coat: Long and straight with almost curly parts with a silky appearance

Colour: Red with white patches, red, blenheim, white undercoat with brown or red markings

Lifespan: 10 years

Special Characteristics

This is a quiet and rather reserved little dog that will be friendly and very happy and loving towards their family. These dogs are not usually friendly towards strangers.

Exercise Requirements

The English Toy Spaniel is considered to have low exercise requirements. One or two walks each day and a good play at home is enough to keep this dog happy and content.

Attitude Towards:

Owners: Will be loyal and devoted to their owners. Will love to sleep on your lap.

Children: Are great around children most of the time. If children get too boisterous they have been known to nip.

Other Pets: Get along with other small pets including cats, even more so if they have been raised with them.

Strangers: Will stand off strangers and will be reserved and quiet around them.

Other Unfamiliar Dogs: Are very good around other unknown dogs.

What to Watch Out For

The dog will need daily grooming, which is relatively fairly quick and easy to do. Their long coat might bring in dirt and mud from outside.

Health Risks

Here are the health risks that this breed are susceptible to and are worth taking not of; mitral valve insufficiency, patellar luxation, cleft palette, cryptorchidism, seborrhea, retinal dysplasia, Leg-Calve-Perthes, hydrocephalus, umbilical hernia, open fontanel and fused toes.

Ideal Owner

The perfect owner of the English Toy Spaniel should not be out of the house for long periods, these dogs do not like to be left home along.

These small dogs love to play, so you need to have the time for plenty of this. These dogs are considered to be ideal for first time novice dog owners.
