Pomeranian

The Pomeranian is a busy, lively and extrovert little dog. They are devoted to their owners and are known for making good little watchdogs.

These small dogs are known for excessive barking, which can be controlled if training is put into place from an early age. Their coat is thick and needs daily care.

This an alert little dog that just loves to be around people. You would also describe this breed as being vivacious, extrovert, lively and affectionate.

Exercise Requirements

These small dogs have medium exercise requirements and will be busy at home and outside. Two good walks each day is enough to keep this dog happy and content.

Attitude Towards:

Owners: Are known for being utterly devoted towards their owners and will shower them with lots of affection.

Children: Are really good around children however they could easily be injured by boisterous children playing.

Other Pets: Are known to be good around small pets including cats.

Strangers: Are good around strangers if well socialised.

Other Unfamiliar Dogs: Are friendly towards unknown dogs if they have been well socialised from a young age.

What to Watch Out For

They are known for barking excessively, appropriate training from a young age is required to avoid this. The dogs long coat requires daily grooming and will bring in mud and dirt from outside.

Health Risks

Quite a few health risks to take note of with this breed including; patellar luxation, Legg-Calve-Perthes, progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, entropion, hypoglycaemia, tracheal collapse and dental problems.

Ideal Owner

The perfect owner of the Pomeranian would be an active, gentle and affectionate person with plenty of time for the dogs daily grooming needs and play time.
